Aberdeen townhouses to be returned to residential use

Assurance Homes with Create Studio Architecture have shared plans to carve out 14 apartments through the conversion and extension of two townhouses at the B-listed Bon Accord Crescent.

The densification drive will see the existing extension backing onto a rear lane demolished, to be replaced by a new extension and coach house. The works will return 8 and 9 Bon Accord Crescent, last in use as office accommodation, to residences while building out rear feus which currently serve as car parking.

In a planning statement, the applicant wrote: "The site has sufficient depth to allow a mews development along Bon Accord Crescent Lane in addition to the redesign of the two existing extensions to the rear of the existing main building. Whilst the resultant window-to-window distances vary from 12m-16.5m.

"As the two feus are defined by the original boundary walls to the rear, one feu [No.9] is to become a courtyard whilst [No.8] will be retained as a small car park. The overall development will present a strong appearance to the lane whilst existing granite from rear extensions are re-used to a rationalised rear extension."

The original stair at No.8 will be removed to simplify circulation between both properties. All flats will have access to a car park within the grounds of No.8 and a private courtyard at No.9. No affordable housing will be provided.

All well and good but does it have to look so awful? Had to double check it wasn't HFM.
