Carbon-neutral St Andrews distillery commences phase two works

Eden Mill has commenced a second phase of a new distillery and visitor centre at the University of St Andrews' Eden Campus.

The £8m project, scheduled to complete next summer, has been designed by Opfer Logan Architects to produce whisky and gin in a single carbon-neutral distillery.

Following the completion of the exterior, attention is now turning to the interior, including a tasting experience, cafe and shop overlooking the Eden Estuary.

Stella Morse, Eden Mill’s executive chair, said: “Set to become one of Scotland’s iconic distilleries, it will also be a major St Andrews landmark and a Scottish tourist attraction, sitting at the mouth of the River Eden, with views across to the spires and fairways of St Andrews, a town globally renowned as the ‘home of golf’ and famed for its heritage and historic university.”

Housed within a former paper mill the distillery occupies three 14m wide bays that retain exposed lattice braced box columns, beams and steel roof trusses.
