Twin lab buildings to grow Chapelhall biotech campus

A Central Belt science park is set for expansion with Pioneer Group winning planning consent from North Lanarkshire Council to build 73,000sq/ft of additional accommodation.

Two new Oberlanders-designed laboratory buildings are proposed for the 20-acre Biocity Glasgow, a research campus focused on medicinal research and biotechnology.

Delivered over two phases the first building will provide 33,300 sq/ft of lab space, followed by a larger 39,500sq/ft addition.

In a design statement, Oberlanders wrote: "The proposed buildings are in keeping with the existing BioCity buildings, both in the form and massing, with cladding material similar to that of the surroundings but with the introduction of a new colour palette.

"Form and shape of the buildings follow functionality, with provision for external roof mounted plant areas, service risers including external flue chimneys, and flat roofs with open aspect to enable the installation of solar panels."

Located in Chapelhall off the M8 motorway the speculative build has vertical emphasis, with aligned windows alternating with darker-coloured cladding panels.
