Site start made on £100m Dundee community campus

Robertson Construction has broken ground on a £100m community campus in Dundee with places for 1,800 pupils from an amalgamated Braeview Academy and Craigie High School.

The East End Community Campus has been designed to Passivhaus standards by Holmes Miller, providing 19,500sq/m of space including a music and drama centre, café, library and dance studio.

Classrooms and informal meeting areas are arranged around a central learning plaza, with a broad staircase suitable for relaxation and socialising.

Joanne Hemmings, associate at Holmes Miller, said: "To achieve the rigorous Passivhaus standard, we have placed sustainability right at the heart of the design, which will ensure low energy consumption both during the construction phase and throughout the life of the building.

“The campus will be a compact, highly insulated building with low energy hybrid ventilation, substantial solar panels and a heating system that’s powered by air source heat pumps. A new link to a sustainable cycle and pedestrian route, plus several cycle storage facilities, will encourage active travel to and from the campus."

The campus is expected to open its doors in August 2025.
