Perthshire estate eyes a bigger slice of the leisure economy

A bid by a Perthshire estate to better cater for the burgeoning outdoor market has taken a fresh turn with the submission of a revised masterplan.

Murrayshall Country Estate near Scone proposes a £30m expansion of leisure facilities and guest accommodation to provide a dedicated spa building and lodges.

Removing a residential component, which had been considered necessary to help fund the expansion, the latest plans by Fergus Purdie Architects fall back on the core business as part of a diversification strategy to augment the main hotel.

A natural timber and glass leisure facility will lead the changes, with 19 timber-clad lodges rising on the grounds. Outdoor activities will also be introduced including high-wire forest ropes and a zip line.

Construction is expected to commence by the middle of next year for completion by late 2027.

I'm sure this will be very nice in reality, but these renders make it look a trifle unsettling.

If it were to actually look like that, the weird planting and claustrophobic clustering of figures would make it a very odd place.
