Apartments plan lodged for Morningside care home

A former nursing home at Church Hill, Edinburgh, is to be converted into six private apartments by Strathedin Properties.

CM Architects have been instructed to oversee the transformation, which will retain the symmetry of the listed front facade by positioning an associated new build extension to the rear.

As part of the works, the original room proportions of Strathmore House will be reinstated and all surviving cornices and fireplaces will be retained in situ.

A three-storey dressed buff sandstone block will stand alongside, meeting the main building with recessed aluminium windows and spandrel panels.

A new boundary wall formed from local stone will also be erected.

Front and side elevations of the planned extension are finished in vertical standing seam zinc

I hope they take as much care of their residents as they have done with the transparency of the boundary wall. Well done Strathedin Properties.
