Ambassador Group with Mosaic Architecture & Design have shared early plans for purpose-built student accommodation at Osborne Street, Glasgow.

A 0.3-acre site comprising around one-third of a city block has been chosen to host Nova, a rectangular build hosting 270 studio apartments over ten levels that will address the corner of Old Wynd with a setback entrance.

A robust material palette including brick, terracotta and granite is proposed with a basement plant room freeing up the roofscape for an outdoor roof terrace. The ground floor elevation will be activated by a gym and residents' lounge.

In a design development statement, the applicants note: "A distinctive a ‘shoulder’ is set by established datum lines creating a recessed area on the Southern facade. The scale of the eastern facade is articulated to maximise the available daylight to the Old Wynd."

The 12-week consultation presages a formal planning application later in the year.

Once again, the rawness of the Revit render betrays the reality of the raw and sterile nature of the design.

What about the consented 14-storey Hotel right across the Wynd?

Tens of rooms but 6m away from each other - no attempt made to acknowledge this in any of the imagery.
