Bucolic Bangour hospital to be nursed back to life

West Lothian Council has awarded planning permission for 412 homes at Bangour Village, the first phase of a new neighbourhood within the grounds of a Victorian hospital.

Ambassador Group will soon break ground on a range of house types set within 215 acres of woodland, as part of efforts to establish a new neighbourhood centred on an A-listed recreation hall.

Gordon Coster, managing director of Ambassador Group's developments division, said: "We are committed to honouring Bangour's legacy and working with the local community and stakeholders to create a sustainable future for this incredible location."

An estate masterplan by Ark Architecture + Design envisages an eventual 998 homes at the scenic site over the coming decade, including a school and shops.

Infrastructure and groundworks are already underway with detailed designs for the phased masterplan now being progressed.

Given the firm's track record, I don't have much confidence in Ark's ability to do this site justice.
