14 apartments planned for a C-listed Bridge of Allan villa

A C-listed hotel in Bridge of Allan is to be turned into 14 apartments as part of a programme of repair and extension, supplanting earlier plans for a care home.
The former Eagleton Hotel at 103 Henderson Street takes the form of a traditional early Victorian sandstone villa with a Regency-style porch and wrought iron balconies, which will be restored.
Later extensions will be removed to permit new build additions to the sides and rear, respecting the established building line. Finished in facing brick with slate pitched roofs these additions seek to respect the villa without resorting to pastiche.
In a design statement, Bobby Halliday Architects wrote: "Facing brick allows the new built form to tone in with existing without pastiche or use of stone which will be unweathered and create prominence to the new building.
"Separation and lightweight links allow the existing building to ‘stand alone’ and important views of gables to be maintained.
"Simple form with lack of decorative treatment allows the existing building to retain prominence as the ‘centre piece’ and dominant structure within the plot."
