Ardrossan South Beach overhaul to activate underused spaces

Ardrossan Community Development Trust has come forward with plans to redevelop a toilet block at Ardrossan South Beach to provide a new cafe, public convenience and rental kiosk.

Mast Architects propose to demolish the current structure to open up seafront views with large format glazing and bifold doors as part of a revitalised promenade.

The 'Hub on the Prom' will include six multi-function rental beach huts as well as canopy-covered external seating on a raised entrance deck.

Mast wrote: "Facing south the form opens up to the sea with large glazed areas with the roof of the external seating area sloping upwards to maintain views across the water and promenade. To the north, the roof on the proposed extension also slopes upward towards South Crescent Road, to create a focal point and encourage people towards the new cafe."

The work complements broader work by Mike Hyatt Landscape Architects to overhaul barren turfed areas to incorporate spaces for play and events.
