Buchanan Galleries bucks trend
Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors have secured approval for Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries.

Designed by BDP the ambitious expansion plans, now costed at an inflation busting £400million, seek to double the floor space of the existing centre by swallowing the existing multi storey car park and railway air rights in addition to spilling over the adjacent Buchanan bus station.

An elaborate combined entrance pavilion will denote access to both the Concert Hall and shopping centre from Buchanan Street.

The plans have been warmly welcomed in general although concerns have been raised at the potential detrimental impact on air quality, natural light and safety of an enclosed bus station.

Work is scheduled to begin in 2010 to complete in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
