Work underway at prominent Leith Walk build

Drum Property Group has begun work on a high-profile build to rent development designed by Halliday Fraser Munro at the foot of Leith Walk, Edinburgh.

Stead’s Place will provide 110 rental apartments on a 2.9-acre former industrial estate, including a two-storey red sandstone retail parade, refurbishment of which has almost completed.

Attention has now turned to land to the rear for the new build portion of the scheme, now scheduled for completion by spring 2024 after forward funding was obtained from Edmond de Rothschild Real Estate Investment Management.

A further 38 affordable homes are due to be delivered in a final phase of construction towards the end of the year, to be managed by Hillcrest Homes.

Hillcrest development manager David Milton said, “Stead’s Place provides the opportunity to deliver 23 new social-rented homes and 15 mid-rented homes, all of which will be allocated to those in housing need.

The social rented homes will deliver a good mix of one, two and three bed apartments and we are particularly pleased to be delivering family sized homes in this location."

Student housing was originally proposed for the site but dropped during efforts to obtain planning consent.
