Glasgow's newest office block touts its sustainability & digital credentials

The latest addition to Glasgow's office estate has been by the Fore Partnership, which believes it has created the most sustainable building in the country.

Offering 94,000sq/ft of grade A floor space Cadworks is already home to tenants including TLT and Ovo Energy, drawn by functionality such as air quality sensors and an app for tenants and building managers to interact directly with their building. This has been achieved by 'pre-plumbing' all floors and suites with fibre internet.

Designed by Cooper Cromar the offices incorporate a cycle-in access ramp, anti-viral paint and parking reserved exclusively for electric vehicles.

Fore partner Aurélien Collignon said: “It’s crucial that our occupiers have complete confidence that when they bring their business to Cadworks, they will have seamless connectivity that delivers every single day.”

The £23m build targetted a BREEAM 'Excellent' and EPC 'A' rating.

The office space aims to make cycling to work as seamless as possible with a 'cool down zone' and ample storage space

If only they had focused as much on aesthetics as they did on sustainability.

Agree #1. Another building design from Anywhereville.

Its dull. Glasgow hasn't had a decent firm of architects since the Victorian era.

Come on guys, it'll shine like a diamond compared to carbuncle monstrosity planned on its back.

#5 Tbh the proposal next door is a carbon copy of this.

The whole area is a bleak office monoculture, it’s depressing.

Good. If office space is required/wanted it suggests confidence in the economy and heck knows we need some of that. If it can be delivered in a more energy efficient manner than that's also good news. The journey to a sustainable future will be small steps, not huge leaps. This is a welcome further step on that long road, especially if you remember the building that used to be on that site!

Newest office block with vast amounts of embodied carbon touts unsustainable eco-bling credentials with bonus built-in obsolescence doesn't have the same ring to it.

@8 - is that correct though Charlie? Embodied carbon will indeed be there, but this should be offset through the carbon savings that will be realised against continuing to use an inefficient building. Perhaps the existing building that was there could have been stripped back and retrofitted, but i'm not sure that would have been practicable given the fact this building is taller. We need to keep building to improve the overall building stock and accept that demolition and rebuild is the best option when retrofit isn't viable. Frankly, people working in an energy efficient building (even a new one with all the embodied carbon that holds) is better than them all working at home in energy inefficient homes and pumping heat and power out of their poorly insulated properties. Sure, some will live in modern homes but the majority will live in poorly insulated and glazed properties that are long overdue an upgrade.

It would be interesting to see some actual info on how the touted 'eco' credentials are achieved. Must be v difficult with huge heat loss built in on facades, no possibility of natural ventilation or full natural lighting. Must be some whacking big 'eco' machines bolted on to undo all of that bad work. No accounting for embodied energy of course. Can guarantee you that the most sustainable building in the country will not be a glass dinosaur. Aesthetically boring but could be worse as per other's comments....

I genuinely thought that Cadworks had moved into the Enquest offices at Annan House, Aberdeen....
I hope the client got a discount, seeing as the design and drawings had already been done for jobs elsewhere?
