Bennetts Associates publish Citizens Theatre plans
Bennetts Associates have fleshed out their thinking in respect of a refurbishment of Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre with the first indication of the revamped theatres impact on Gorbals Street.

Plans envisage supplanting the drab 1970’s frontage with the reinstatement of six statues depicting the four muses, William Shakespeare and Robert Burns, from the Victorian original.

Anew sequence of foyer spaces, allowing audiences to enter the preserved Victorian auditorium through its stone gable. Upper galleries meanwhile will connect with a new studio theatre, rehearsal, learning and administration spaces.

Interior spaces will be reorganised and refurbished to improve actor’s facilities, backstage areas and construction workshops with the public granted access to the historic under stage machinery – as well as scenery and wardrobe departments, for the first time.

Construction work is pencilled in for early 2016.

Quite like this. Not convinced about using the rescued statues on the front but otherwise looks good I think.
Would be interested to see the approach from the South (direction of vehicle traffic) and how it relates to the adjacent car park. As currently built it's a little closed in that direction and doesn't offer much so I think there's an opportunity there.
Could be great alongside what seems like quite a nice housing scheme that's going up at the minute (by E&C, RMJM or Riarch and Hall I think).
Need to make sure that curtain walling isn't just some cheap catalogue version though please! Needs to be finished well!

I remember the old building which was amazing. But I like this too.if crossrail would be implemented folks would be able to travel to its door from afar! with all the present hous building going on there as well .a train station would help sustain regeneration in that area,
