Construction commences on 145 Morrison Street
Ediston Properties have moved on site of a speculative office scheme on Edinburgh’s Morrison Street, designed by Michael Laird Architects.

Built by Mansell the 26,380sq/ft scheme is scheduled to complete in spring 2013 and is designed to provide flexible accommodation for a single occupier or multiple users.

This entailed part demolition of an existing structure on the brownfield site to erect a contemporary design over five floors.

Clad in a silver metal framed curtain walling system and dark red brick the scheme will rise just down the road from BDPs EICC expansion.

Just because it's clad with silver, doesn't make it right. A worthy contender for abominatrium of the year.

This looks an exciting modernisation from the stalinist grey concrete block which housed the trade unionists - interesting retention of red as a theme though - by coincidence or a subtle design statement!
This area, currently an anonymous block of dark corridors, along with Torphicen Street (on the corner of which sits our office at CBC House) and their link roads is traffic dominated and could benefit hugely from a quality design team casting its eye to link the extending EICC and the soon to be revamped Haymarket Station - any news or takers?
