Led by Sustrans and LUC the public realm initiative will see the towns High Street transformed with a new market square, broadened pavements and new seating following the diversion of vehicles to a new bypass.
Designed to encourage walking and cycling the pedestrian-friendly environment will also entail investment in historic buildings with only one-way traffic permitted between John Knox Street and St Cuthberts Road.
Councillor Chris Cullen commented: "The proposals for Maybole will completely change the visitor experience, increasing accessibility and enhancing community connectivity for all, via the active travel network, making it a destination of choice."
Chiquita Elvin, head of infrastructure delivery for Sustrans Scotland, said: "These draft proposals seek to address the challenges posed by Maybole's historic town centre and demonstrate how partnerships make better places to walk, cycle, live, visit and work and how this can be done while respecting the historic character and heritage of a place."
Opinions should be registered by Friday at 17:00.
The road will be narrowed to a single 3m carriageway lined by generous paving of between 2.1m and 4.4m
