Clyde Gateway is to undertake a programme of greenspace enhancements to open ground around Bridgeton Community Learning Campus, Glasgow.

Overseen by Hirst Landscape Architects the work will rehabilitate the council-owned woodland by clearing litter and fly-tipped waste while pruning dense foliage to improve visibility.

Existing paths will be resurfaced and an open-air events space refurbished, together with the addition of a community growing space, bike tracks and a boardwalk wetland area to encourage adoption and biodiversity.

These improvements will be advertised through fencing, entrance gateways and signage totems at key points.

A series of consultations and engagement exercises will take place over the summer ahead of a formal planning application, with completion expected by summer 2022.

Surely the basic question in all of this is why did the community not adopt this space in the first place?

Why was it allowed to deteriorate to this extent?
Why didn't the council not keep it tidy?

I fear we will have the makeover followed by years of neglect.
