Dalmarnock homes deliver the goods after 60 years

Springfield Properties have commenced work on 114 homes for affordable and mid-market rent at Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow, on behalf of West of Scotland Housing Association.

The £18.2m will transform a former goods yard opposite Dalmarnock Station which has lain derelict for around 60 years.

Designed inhouse by Springfield the development will be screened from the railway line by an existing tree line and retaining wall with linear buildings arranged around courtyard gardens and play areas. A shop and informal seating will also be created opposite the station building.

Springfield’s managing director of affordable housing, Tom Leggeat, said: “These homes will rejuvenate a neglected pocket of land and bring new, highly energy-efficient housing to the people who need them. They are well-positioned, with great commuter links to the centre of Glasgow and residents will have plenty of outdoor space."

A second phase could deliver a further 123 homes at a later date.

All ground floor apartments will have access to a 2-3m private terrace

This looks terrific. Loving the scale and density. What a difference that a hard urban street edge can make. Loving the densification of Dalmarnock....long may it continue.

60's hidden roof vibe turned up to the max -- should have no place in tenement Glasgow.

File under lack of history or imagination.

Really happy with this. Aesthetically it isn't great, but it adds some pleasing density, it has ground floor retail and its lined hard up against the street.

Give me those three ingredients and I'll almost always be happy.

#4, yes really. Why is it that so many commentators on this site don't want to see Glasgow grow and flourish? And it is white brick, not white render.
