Former primary school earmarked for 28 Yoker homes

Yoker Housing Association is seeking to build 28 new homes within the grounds of the former Yoker Primary School, Knightswood, as detailed in a new planning application by Grant Murray Architects.
Built around newly established communal open space modelled on the ‘home zone’ concept the development will prioritise pedestrians over vehicles with coloured paving demarking different uses.
In a statement, the practice wrote: “These communal open spaces are more than just a token gesture. They create an open and welcoming space where people can socialize and play outwith their own private outdoor space. As individuals lead increasingly isolated, sedentary lives focused on indoor activity, creating an environment which encourages social interaction and activity is more crucial than ever.”
In design terms the proposals utilise a mixture of feature gable terraces, semi-detached homes and bungalows all finished in textured brick with individual homes outlined by the use of contrasting anthracite grey brick.
The new homes will be built to a density of 21 units per hectare.
