St Enoch Square set for whisky-themed restaurant and serviced apartments

A historic building on Glasgow’s St Enoch Square is to be repurposed as a whisky themed bar/ restaurant below 25 serviced apartments in a new planning application drawn up by Mosaic Architecture + Design on behalf of Big Top Productions.

The Teacher building will be subject to a £6m renovation including new exterior lighting to bring the B-listed Italian Renaissance façade to life and refurbishment of gilded signage connected with its historic role as the headquarters for William Teacher & Sons.

Stephen Mallon, director of Mosaic, said: “The design is one we feel is respectful of the existing building, history and context, the idea of a new whisky-themed bar is obvious, given the heritage, and the Teacher brand owners are supportive and keen to be involved in the design aspects of the development.”

First built in 1875 the Teacher Building was designed by James Boucher, best known for his role in designing the Kibble Palace.
