A9 attraction banishes the 1970s for ‘cohesive’ new look

A Perthshire visitor centre is in line for significant expansion following submission of plans by Design Mill to rebuild the Bankfoot destination.

Taste Perthshire offers a mix of retail and restaurants off the A9 and was re-launched two years ago to focus on local produce, with attention now turning to the building itself to erase a tired 1970s exterior.

Submitted plans show the relocation of office accommodation to a new upper floor, together with the introduction of new meeting rooms and private dining spaces, while expanding the range of restaurants and retail on offer.

Finished in smooth acrylic render, aluminium curtain walling under a natural slate roof the development seeks to achieve a ‘cohesive’ appearance. Further floorspace will be provided by way of twin bookend extensions at either end of the principal south elevation, with a timber canopy offering sheltered access to the car park.

Looks like its being upgraded (and I use that term loosely) from the 1970s to the 1990s...

Cummon guys! We can do better than this for major tourist attractions!

Is that image the 1970's one requiring upgrading or the 2018's one requiring a rethink?
