Schooling begins at £28.7m Dundee secondary campus
Dundee City Council has confirmed completion of the authority’s newest secondary school, a £28.5m campus that also includes Sidlaw View Primary and Jessie Porter – both of which are already in operation.

Facilities offered at Baldragon Academy include a separate sports hall complete with its own gym and swimming pool together with artificial sports pitches, a garden and greenhouse.

Designed by Holmes Miller the school adopts a rectangular form dominated by a large lightwell with the front elevation taking the appearance of a standard brickwork grid, contrasting with the irregular metal cladding of the sports hall.

Explaining this layout the architects observed: “The arrangement of spaces around a central open plan space, has allowed an easily navigable floor plan to be developed, with all spaces relating back to the central dining + assembly space, and direct views between departments established.”

Baldragon Academy was built on the old school’s playing fields by Robertson Tayside in partnership with hub East Central and the Scottish Futures Trust with a capacity of up to 1,100 pupils.
