£56m Lerwick High School handed over
Shetland Islands Council have assumed ownership of Anderson High School and an accompanying hall of residence following completion of the £56m build by Morrison Construction.

Designed by Ryder Architecture the school will accommodate up to 1,180 pupils with a 100 bed residential annexe offering boarding facilities for pupils travelling from further afield.

Council chief executive Mark Boden said: “This is a landmark day for Shetland. The Council has realised the aspiration of many years and delivered a state of the art modern school. It will provide an ideal learning environment for Shetland’s children, and give school staff the best possible opportunity to deliver first class education.”

Situated near Loch of Clickimin near Lerwick the complex constitutes the Council’s biggest building project with the first pupils set to arrive following the October break.

Before then a number of open days are planned to give residents a chance to tour the new facility.

OOFT - that is a little bit scary...like 3 or 4 buildings piled on top of each other.

Surely they needed 6 different types of timber cladding and not 5?

"we'll just use the left over materials from all the other schools. We'll make it work"...
