Edinburgh Gateway will offer direct access to the airport and has been delivered as part of the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme to electrify the line between both cities and increase capacity.
Phil Verster, managing director of the ScotRail Alliance, said: “Scotland’s railway is undergoing its biggest transformation since Victorian times as we work with the government to deliver the stations, tracks and trains needed to provide more seats and more services for our customers.
“Edinburgh Gateway will help to transform the way people use our network and access Edinburgh’s trams and airport.”
Taking the form of twin 265m-long platforms the IDP Architects designed station will be capable of handling 10-car trains with 1,500sq/m of concourse and circulation space, lifts and escalators facilitating entry and egress.
