June 3 2016updated proposals to develop 11 flats on the site of a redundant industrial unit at Horne Terrace, Edinburgh.
Nestled within a tenement district close to Haymarket Station the scheme abuts the Union Canal which it will address with climber planting and new reed bed to create an ecological niche along the canal bank.
In a design statement Oberlanders architects observed: “The Northern elevation features an open mesh type green wall (climber planting supported by stainless steel rope, rods and / or timber poles) at ground level. This greened surface both allows ventilation to the car parking and creates an ecologically sensible, aesthetically appealing and pleasant aspect at eye level to the canal side.”
Faced in brick with timber balconies the development will adopt a more ‘restrained’ approach to Horne Street frontage with timber clad parking shutters and a feature metal ‘tower’ element.
