The Scottish Design Awards have been honouring the architectural work to be delivered since 1998 but the 2015 crop of 69 entries prove just how far the profession has come over the intervening years.

Scooping this year’s best in show Grand Prix award once again were Reiach & Hall Architects who won over judges with their Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, Lanarkshire, earning themselves the titles of Architecture Practice of the Year and Best Public Building and an Engineering Award in the process.

In their citation awards judges remarked: “The grand prix of 2015 demonstrated a beautiful addition to the area. It cleverly created a series of beautiful spaces without denying its context,” adding that Reiach & Hall demonstrated ‘consistent high quality work’ and ‘showed persistence in realising the potential of a diverse range of commissions.’

Elsewhere the Chairman’s Award went to JM Architects for their work on The Reid Building for the Glasgow School of Art, itself a winner of an Education Award and a timely reminder that from the ashes of the recent fire the school lives on.
