£5.3m of work will include construction of a garden café, toilet and community space within an old stable block and yard together with refurbishment of an historic bandstand and winter garden.
Councillor Lesley Hinds, environment convener, said: “Saughton Park has a long and proud history and this is your chance to help give it a fantastic future. I think these proposals are very exciting and will restore the park to its former glory, to be enjoyed by residents from nearby and beyond.
"That's why it's so important that people take part in the consultation and tell us what they think of our ambitious plans."
Prepared in partnership between Ironside Farrar and Sutherland Hussey, together with Richard Shorter Architect and David Narro Associates, the consultation will run until 6 April. HLF will then confirm whether or not they will support the bid in December with construction getting underway by August 2017 for completion in December 2018 – if successful.
The 17th century open space is managed by the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and the Friends of Saughton Park.
