Craigmillar health & community centre wins approval
3DReid have won approval for their plans to redevelop an existing health and community centre at Craigmillar to form a new headquarters for veteran’s health charity the Thistle Foundation.

This will see the existing Tudsbery Centre demolished and replaced with a new community health and well-being facility with office space above.

Clad in pressure treated Norclad Scandanavian Redwood the scheme is intended to blend into the surrounding landscape and adjacent stone built Robin Chapel with more robust brickwork specified for the base course and reconstituted stone plinth.

In their design statement 3DReid say: “The proposed design engages positively with its immediate context, in terms of its positioning, height and scale. In plan, the footprint aligns with the housing on both Queen’s Walk and West Court, establishing a defined corner as well as refining the enclosed West Court courtyard.

“The design nestles subtly within its setting, in deference to the Robin Chapel in terms of scale and massing. The building envelope does not breach the established ridge line of the residential properties on Queen’s Walk, and follows the stepping down pattern of the house heights along West Court.”
