HLM win competition to build energy efficient homes

August 1 2007

HLM architects has won an architectural competition, organised by RIAS for the Highland Housing Alliance, to develop two of the 27 plots that will form part of the first Housing Fair of its kind in the UK.

The Housing Fair is to take place in 2009, and was devised as a means to raise the bar for Scottish and Highland housing, showcasing ‘modern, sustainable and innovative design.’

The competition saw over 120 entrants from across the world compete for a place at the exhibition site, located at Balvonie Braes to the south east of Inverness.

HLM will design a series of low energy terraced houses, with developers McAlister Holdings appointed to build both plots.

Anne Mullan, Development Director of McAlister Holdings, said: “We are delighted to have won this unique competition given that it was open to entrants world-wide. It is the first of its kind and is a unique opportunity for HLM and McAlister Holdings to create sustainable housing.”
