December 10 201381 new flats and townhouses on a 4.9 acre site in Edinburgh’s Morningside.
The £50m scheme, designed by Michael laird Architects, will entail demolition of the C(s)-listed Woodcroft Telephone Exchange to make way for a residential development of 24 townhouses and 57 flats arranged in a series of blocks rising up to five storeys in height.
Built in the 1960’s the derelict structure is described as ‘competent, rather than outstanding’ and will be replaced with a stone, dark grey metal panel, glass and timber clad design intended to respect the adjoining Merchiston and Greenhill conservation area.
The existing site boundary and mature trees will be maintained, within which will be set a mix of private and communal garden spaces will be incorporated throughout the development.
