November 15 2013transformation of a Merchant City gap site into a new public park; including pathways, planting, seating and lighting, by Glasgow City Council land and environmental services.
Bounded by London Road, St Andrews Lane, Moir Street and Gallowgate the site has lain derelict since 2011 when a fire prompted the demolition of the remnants of a former tenement block.
Plans had been tabled for a residential led redevelopment of the site but nothing ever came of it, prompting the Council to step in as part of efforts to spruce up the city’s image ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games.
