The Scottish Executive has approved plans for the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL) that will provide direct rail services between the airport and stations across Scotland.

The £610 million project will see a railway station, to be designed by Aedas, built in the main terminal of the airport, linking it to towns such as Glasgow, Stirling, Fife and Dundee.

Aedas’ Project Manager, John Kinsley, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working on this prestigious project and look forward to providing passengers with a first class rail service.”

Preliminary work is due to begin later on this year, with completion currently expected by the end of 2011.
