Dumbarton Academy works commence
A sod cutting ceremony has taken place on site of the new Dumbarton Academy, a 700 space school incorporating a new theatre, library and flood-lit all-weather pitch.

Once complete the existing school will be demolished to allow construction of an additional pitch and 100m running track.

Designed by Keppie and built by BAM Construction for West Dunbartonshire Council the new school will be built from blue and grey brick, metal cladding and glass.

The £15.5m school is expected to be complete by August 2013.

BAM Construction's regional director, Ken Irving, joined pupils for the ceremony
