This has seen high quality granite paving laid around the fortified keep, encouraging pedestrian movement from nearby shops to the newly landscaped moat.
Stainless steel seating and integrated artwork provide a focal point for visitors and locals to congregate.
Flood lighting by night has been employed to highlight key features of the enhanced space, notably tree planters and the imposing volume of the castle itself.
Practice director Alistair Scott, told urban Realm: “We have been involved in producing a masterplan for Stranraer Waterfront, which has grown into a Public Realm Commission for a new Square around the Castle.”
Smith Scott Mullan are presently developing a masterplan for the port area following the announcement by Stena Line that it intends to relocate its operations to nearby Loch Ryan.
