Glasgow City Council has agreed a £14m contract to extend Tollcross Pool in order to accommodate an additional six lane, 50m warm up and training pool.

It will also provide enhanced changing accommodation, a dance hall, conditioning suite, improved staff facilities and an additional 4,000 viewing seats, 1,000 of which will be permanent.

The work is being necessitated by Glasgow’s upcoming Commonwealth Games bid, with the pool scheduled to be utilised as a key swimming venue for the 2014 event.

Post games the pool will be made available for community use.
