Hackland+Dore submit Glasgow student housing plans
Edinburgh based Hackland+Dore Architects have submitted £4.5m plans for 33 student flats at Argyle Street at the junction of Old Dumbarton Road. Replacing a former petrol station (and St Enoch's United FC church) the development aims to sympathetically reflect the solid/void proportions of neighbouring tenements and will incorporate ground floor retail. The scheme will be clad in a mixture of blonde sandstone and red brick.

Err....did they pull this scheme out of a Christmas cracker? (a cheap one at that) This is a key site in glasgow (see the last 20 years of student projects from the Mac and Strathclyde), surely this absolute horror show of a scheme wont get planning?!

Looks suspiciously like someone's doing a 2 for 1 on rank awful renders in the Argyle Street locale (ref previous news item on ABCs Yorkhill HA offices - now sadly with an alternative series of images).
A special mention on this one should go to the efforts made to reduce the scale of the ground floor to the absolute minimum. Take that context!

This type of building is astonishing. It is an exemplary reason for emigrating, especially if you are an architect. The inherent despair led me to emigrate in 1992.

@craig comerford 'oh the despair' you emigrated out of despair and not caring but your commenting here? i mean they don't have shite buildings like this going up in other countries at all do they! take your negative opinion elsewhere.

By no means a looker - but it's better than the nackered old BP petrol station that it replaces. It's a shame they couldn't use some inspiration but I expect it's utilitarian and cheap because that's what pay back quickest!
