Speirs & Major steel the show

Speirs & Major steel the show
Fresh from scooping a Lighting award for their Stockton Infinity Bridge, Edinburgh based lighting designers Speirs and Major Associates have relit a row of former blast furnaces in Pennsylvania.

The moody lighting was installed at the behest of Sands Casino Resort in the town of Bethlehem, keen to preserve the legacy of an industrial past.

A decade after the furnaces cooled the site has been taken over las Vegas Sands Corporation who have transformed the site into a casino resort.

Programmable LEDs thus bathe the moody structures in shades of red and blue, intended to signify the process of ‘heating up’ and ‘cooling off’ the furnaces. In doing so the team intend to retain the integrity of the facility whilst promoting Bethlehem as a contemporary destination.
