Holyrood committee backs new Forth crossing
A special committee of MSPs have lent their backing to a the Forth Crossing Bill, a key piece of legislation which parliament must pass before work on the £2bn project can begin.

In doing so the Holyrood committee rejected objections pertaining to congestion on approach roads.

Funding for what would amount to the largest piece of Scottish transport infrastructure investment in a generation is to be sourced from the Scottish Government’s capital budget.

If given favourable economic will and capital work could commence next year and complete by 2016.

The existing crossing is intended to be used as a fast track public transport corridor at this time.
