Neoclassical Edinburgh hotel plays the long game with a light makeover

A landmark former bank at St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, latterly operating as a 50-bedroom hotel, has been relaunched after undergoing extensive refurbishment.
Owned and operated by The Chris Stewart Group The Edinburgh Grand trades under Marriott International's Luxury Collection brand, the first hotel in Scotland to do so.
Housed within a converted 1940s neoclassical building, the initial refurbishment centres on 33 rooms, the fitness centre, executive lounge and front foyer with a further 17 rooms and a spa set to be upgraded soon in a second phase of action.
The light makeover positions the hotel for the luxury long-stay market and features large apartments of up to three bedrooms with fully equipped kitchens, living and dining areas.
Hotel general manager Emre Pasli commented: “The Edinburgh Grand has long been distinguished for its unique history as the former headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
“Becoming part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection allows us to honour that legacy through thoughtful experiences, exceptional service and a sense of place that seamlessly blends timeless charm with the unique essence of Scotland."
Interior design was led by Karen Brown, head of interior design at Chris Stewart Group, who has blended rich colours and textures with period features such as sash windows and a sweeping staircase.
