Quaint Murrayfield cottage set for a growth spurt
March 10 2025
Big changes are afoot for a Victorian cottage tucked away in a quiet corner of Murrayfield, Edinburgh, with plans to demolish the semi-detached property and replace it with a new build home.
Fully enclosed by offices and commercial space to the west and east the site sits behind a large villa fronting Corstorphine Road and backs onto the Water of Leith at the rear. A separate application has also been filed for the neighbouring home, a modern design which bookends the terrace, by the same practice.
Block Nine Architects proposes to fully redevelop the existing property by completely reworking the interior, within the current footprint, in order to extend vertically. This will be achieved by relocating the stair to the rear, offering access to an all new second floor which has been stepped to minimise overshadowing.
New additions will be modern in appearance specifying buff natural stone to harmonise with retained stonework on the ground and first floor, with timber battens transitioning to a zinc roof.
