Kirknewton hotel branches out with a timber cabaret hall

An Edinburgh hotel is branching out into entertainment with the submission of plans for a cabaret hall.

Warner Leisure, owner of The Dalmahoy Hotel in Kirknewton, has asked PWP Architects to create a dedicated entertainment hall on the site of an existing tennis court.

Connecting to the A-listed main building by a single-storey link the glue-laminated timber hall will have the capacity for 102 guests and include a bar, kitchen and services.

In a design statement, PWP wrote: "The cabaret building will appear as a simple double-height structure with natural materials set within a discreet location to the north of the existing buildings. Its simple form will be accentuated using stained timber cladding, to reflect the wooded landscape with which it sits, with a slate-hung box forming the backstage areas."

Solid chevron patterned walls will reduce sound transfer from the stage and dancefloor with high-level glazing introducing views of the landscape, redesigned by Clews.
