Study pavilion to externalise introverted Aberdeen student housing

A student housing block in Aberdeen city centre is set to branch out with plans to create an external amenity space including gardens and a study pavilion.

Mealmarket Exchange at West North Street currently turns its back to a rear parking court with a limited amount of socialising space. To address this a serviced garden pavilion is proposed for the east of the site.

In a proposal statement, 56Three Architects wrote: "The pavilion structure features an exposed timber structure and treated timber cladding panels that are repeated along the elevation. Sliding glazed panels allow access to the pavilion in which a kitchenette and a variety of seating areas allow spaces for cooking, socialising or study.

"The external study/seating booths are connected to the main pavilion by a slatted walkway of timber joists and are separated from other external spaces by a vertical timber screen which additionally provides privacy."

Timber benches and paving will surround this space with existing trees to be retained.
