Hunterston marine & energy park takes another step forward

Clydeport has taken another step toward a major upgrade of its Hunterston construction yard to accommodate offshore renewables infrastructure.

The former coal port is transitioning to new forms of clean energy under the guidance of engineering consultancy Arch Henderson, with a contractor now being sought to deliver on these goals.

A huge redevelopment of the sprawling port is already underway, including plans for a subsea cable factory, to capitalise on the Firth of Clyde peninsula's status as the deepest sea entrance across the west coast of the UK.

Works to establish the energy and marine campus include demolition and infill of a dry dock to form a new western quay, establishing a construction platform for the assembly of wind turbines.

Site clearance is expected to get underway towards the end of the year for completion by 2026.
