Rutherglen electric forecourt leads green travel charge

Solar energy provider Gridserve has lodged plans with South Lanarkshire Council to build an all-electric forecourt in Rutherglen designed by Bowman Riley.

Providing the infrastructure required to make good on a UK Government pledge to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030 the charging station would serve growing numbers of electric vehicles alongside ancillary retail and a food and drink outlet.

Offering 23 charging bays the station will cater for increased dwell times, averaging 30 minutes per vehicle, catered for via the provision of a lounge for relaxation.

The modular design will be built off-site, repeatable for future sites across the country with metallic copper cladding panels contrasting with a feature Gridserve branded gable. The main building will face directly onto the forecourt, sheltered by a 10.5 m wide solar canopy, anchored to a central walkway.

Doubling as a promotional venue the forecourt at Duchess Place off the M74 would host test drives and educational events.
