B-listed Beith mansion branches out with nine woodland homes

Proposals for nine homes within the grounds of the B-listed Hamilfield House in Beith, North Ayrshire, have received planning consent.
The sensitive site was shepherded through planning by LMA with assurances that mature trees would be left in-situ, retaining the woodland setting while delivering low-energy family homes oriented to maximise views and light.
Served by two new access routes from an opened-up boundary wall along Roebank Road the development categorises the land in three distinct areas, with land immediately around the house remaining untouched. This would leave two separate outer plots which will house five and four homes respectively.
In a concept statement, LMA observed: "The concept design proposes low-key compact houses scattered around outer zones away from the surroundings of Hamilfield House located around existing trees of note. The material and design would echo the tones and atmosphere of the woodlands, with natural and darker materials proposed, subtle detailing, offering unobtrusive objects in the setting. Similarly, low impact ground treatments would see the feeling of a natural woodland site maintained."
Homes establish a sense of community by positioning prominent gables away from the street toward home zones with an emphasis on horizontal lines by picking out upper and lower floors. This is emphasised by the use of vertical timber cladding and dark brick.
