Jedburgh school site to address affordable housing need

Cruden Homes have shared updated proposals for the site of a former primary school in Jedburgh, outlining how the site could play host to 76 homes for social rent.

The former Howdenburn Primary closed in 2020 with pupils transferring to Jedburgh Grammar Campus at Hatrigge Park. Since demolished the 5.57-acre site has been taken on by Eildon Housing Association which will also oversee a new network of roads, footpaths and open space.

Nile Istephan, Eildon chief executive, commented: “The addition of more social rented homes in the Borders is part of our £137m investment into the local economy. Part of our strategy is to build up to 800 new homes across the area and address the ongoing need for high-quality affordable housing.”

A mix of three-storey colony-style flats and houses is planned for the site. Led by Aitken Turnbull Architects the project is currently out for consultation
