Brechin distillery goes back to the future with a twin pagoda roof

Glencadam Distillery has been awarded planning by Angus Council to erect a visitor centre.

Working with jmarchitects the distiller will introduce a shop, exhibition space, tasting rooms, a lounge and cafe to its Brechin premises, as well as a first-floor lounge.

Reintroducing two distinctive pagoda-style roofs lost to fire the work reinterprets the traditional flourish as skylights to draw light and air to the interior.

A stone facade will ground the new building within its historic setting with a concrete band used to delineate floors. A cottage used to greet distillery guests will also be remodelled as a VIP suite with a bar and tasting room on the first floor.

This will benefit from the introduction of a large glazed dormer looking toward the visitor centre.
