Rothesay Pavilion restoration gets underway
Contractor CBC has begun a £10.6m contract to restore Rothesay Pavilion at the behest of Argyle & Bute Council in a long-awaited move to bring the International Modernist building back to its 1930’s best.

This will see the A-listed building returned to the heart of island life as a hub for cultural and community use with a designated exhibition space, shop, café and events hall together with a smaller performance venue.

A new top storey will be fashioned to house additional function rooms and offices while a former caretaker’s house will be given a fresh lease of life as separate office space for local businesses.

James McAlpine, managing director of CBC, said: “We feel very privileged to be working on such a beautiful and iconic building that is so rich in heritage. We are very experienced in conserving historic and listed buildings and look forward to restoring the stunning pavilion to its former glory for the local community.”

A dedicated Rothesay Pavilion charity will operate and manage the facility when it re-opens in July 2019.

The community of Bute have been working hard for a while now to get this project underway. It is very important not just for the building and what it will bring but also how it will regenerate Rothesay and it's water front. I wish it every success.
