University of Edinburgh files Darwin Centre redevelopment plan
The University of Edinburgh has filed proposals to extend its school of biological sciences through redevelopment of the existing Darwin Centre, King’s Buildings Campus.

This work will see a 10 storey tower overclad, refurbished and extended over an existing library to designs by Fielden Clegg Bradley with a twin skin glazed curtain wall ‘bio cube’ rising above a base of pattern brick.

Pleated glass will be used in the tower element to reflect the sky and neighbouring Swann building with solar control blinds sandwiched between inner and outer facades.

Separate work will see the current Hive building turned into a main entrance for the School of Biological Sciences and wider campus with a café, science studio, social learning spaces and offices all visible from the street.

Looks to settle in harmoniously with its context.
Well done lads.

YES, do it! Far far better than the current state it's in.
