£20m Irvine leisure centre to break ground in March
Barr Construction has been appointed to deliver a £20m leisure centre in Irvine, replacing the 1970s built Magnum Centre with a combined sport, cultural and exhibition centre.

First announced back in 2012 the North Ayrshire Council scheme will move on site next month to deliver a 25m pool, sports hall, gym and studios together with a mezzanine level for spectators. An adjoining B-listed town house will be refurbished and integrated with the new build to provide a reception, event space and offices.

Paul Griffen, construction director at Barr Construction commented: “This is an important project for Irvine and we are extremely proud to be playing such a significant role in delivering a first-class sport and leisure facility.”

As part of the works Irvine War Memorial will be refurbished and repositioned outside the town house. The new centre is scheduled to open its doors in January 2017.
A civic reception space will be created within the restored town house
